Back From Vacation
Got back from vacation yesterday. Got off the plane, went to sleep, went to work. I always try to read a lot when I'm taking time off. This vacation was especially good. I read five books in five days and polished off a few more later on.
First the non-fiction, I've been super interested in hedge-funds recently so I got a couple non-fiction finance books. When Genius Failed: The Rise and Fall of Long-Term Capital Management tells the story of the rise and fall of Long Term Capital Management. It's a great read and reminds you anyone can fail in the market, even PhD Economists from MIT with Nobels.
Liar's Poker is the story of bond trading at Salomon by an insider, Michael Lewis, who wrote Money Ball.
Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage on Wall Street
Now the fiction, first I read Harry Potter. Very nice read, the ending was a little too pedantic.
Thirteen Moons was amazing. It's the story of a self made man in the early west. Charles Frazier wrote Cold Mountain: A Novel one of my all time favorite books.
The emperor's children was a great read.
And a mystery to close it out Labyrinth
