Desktop widgets
Konfabulator was just acquired by Yahoo! to drive adoption of their web services platform. The logic is that widgets drive use of their API with a lower bar to entry.

RSS Venture Fund
It seems like the entire RSS things is really out of the bag now. There is a 100M venture fund being formed to invest in RSS technologies, read more here.
